Biography
Dr. Gafari Lukumon (popularly called Lukgaf) is an educator whose work reflects the enduring value placed on knowledge and service. Born in Iseyin, Oyo State, he holds dual PhDs — in Mathematics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Cognitive Science (Honours) from the École Normale Supérieure, Paris, in cotutelle with the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, Morocco.
He has held postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of South Africa, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) at the Institut Jean Nicod in Paris, and the African Business School in Morocco. His research spans mathematics education, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence, with publications in reputable journals.
Alongside his academic work, Dr. Lukgaf has invested consistently in his community. He founded Math with Lukgaf, a free initiative that teaches UTME mathematics in the Yorùbá language, and Math with Lukgaf Clinic, a physical, evidence-based learning centre in Oyo State offering scholarship-funded examination preparation to students of limited means. He also founded the Hotspot International Scholarship Forum, which has helped many Nigerian students access scholarship opportunities abroad.
His recognitions include the MSSN OYAC Academic Icon, 2025 Mathematically Gifted and Black honour and the 2024 Oke-Ogun Exemplary Youth Award in Education.
