Biography Dr. Ahmet Aksöz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Kayseri University, Türkiye. He received dual bachelor's degrees in Mechatronics Engineering (ranked first in his class) and Mechanical Engineering from Erciyes University before completing his integrated Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Gazi University. During his academic career, he has conducted research at internationally recognized institutions, including the University of Oviedo (Spain), Aalborg University (Denmark), and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), where he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the MOBI research group. His research focuses on power electronics, electrical machines, electric vehicle technologies, battery management systems, energy management systems, renewable energy integration, smart grids, microgrids, digital energy systems, and artificial intelligence applications in energy. His work combines advanced modelling, control, optimization, machine learning, digital twins, and hardware-oriented validation to develop sustainable and intelligent energy solutions for transportation and power systems. Dr. Aksöz has accumulated extensive international research experience through academic and industrial collaborations. At Gazi University, he worked on electrical machine design, power electronics, renewable energy modelling, smart grid applications, and control systems. At Aalborg University, his research focused on active damping control, harmonic suppression, PMSM drives, and converter optimization. At Vrije Universiteit Brussel, he contributed to research on modular multilevel converters, switched reluctance machines, wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies, vehicle-to-grid systems, electric vehicle powertrains, embedded programming, and high-efficiency power conversion technologies. Throughout his career, Dr. Aksöz has actively participated in numerous European research and innovation projects funded by Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, COST Actions, TÜBİTAK, and industrial partners. He has served as team leader or principal researcher in projects such as DECARBOMOBILE, BLOW, FLEXSHIP, THEUS, EXTENDED, BATTwin, and GridCloud while contributing to earlier Horizon 2020 projects including ORCA, Hiperform, and HiFi-Elements. His expertise covers proposal development, project coordination, work package leadership, digitalization, validation activities, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination of research outcomes. Dr. Aksöz has established a strong publication record with more than 35 SCI/SCI-E indexed journal articles together with numerous conference papers, book chapters, and technical publications. His research has addressed topics such as battery state estimation, battery-assisted fast charging stations, explainable artificial intelligence for battery management, renewable energy forecasting, maritime electrification, electric vehicle infrastructure, modular converters, smart grids, machine learning, and cyber-physical energy systems. His publications appear in leading journals including Applied Sciences, Energies, Sustainability, Scientific Reports, Journal of Energy Storage, Heliyon, Batteries, Electronics, and Energy Storage. In addition to research, Dr. Aksöz has extensive teaching and supervision experience. He has delivered undergraduate and graduate courses covering electrical machines, electric drives, renewable energy systems, power electronics, power transmission and distribution, microprocessors, control systems, artificial intelligence in engineering, electromagnetic design, battery management systems, energy management systems, and advanced power conversion technologies. He has supervised master's and doctoral students in Türkiye and Belgium on electric vehicles, battery technologies, modular converters, and power electronics. His scientific contributions have been recognized through numerous national and international awards, including the IEEE Power Electronics Society Chapter recognition, Best Reviewer Award, multiple Turkish Higher Education Council Academic Incentive Awards, TÜBİTAK research scholarships, conference best paper awards, and selection for international research and networking programmes. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and actively serves within the IEEE Power Electronics Society and IEEE Power & Energy Society. Dr. Aksöz also possesses strong practical engineering skills in MATLAB/Simulink, DigSILENT PowerFactory, Python, C/C++, electromagnetic simulation, hardware-in-the-loop development, embedded systems, PCB design, and power electronics laboratory implementation. His interdisciplinary background enables him to bridge academic research with industrial innovation, contributing to next-generation sustainable energy systems, intelligent transportation, battery technologies, and digital energy infrastructures.
