Biography
Emanuel Peres completed the Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2003 and, in 2011, obtained the degree of Doctor in Engineering Sciences, with the thesis “Multi-technology access point for local data processing and support for viticulture applications precision”. Since 2023 he has been an Associated Professor at the Department of Engineering (DE), at the School of Science and Technology (ECT), at UTAD.
He taught and / or conducted more than 38 different curricular units, mainly in the area of computer engineering. The average results of students' pedagogical questionnaires, regarding its teaching performance, is invariably between Very Good and Excellent. He participated in the creation and restructuring of several study cycles, among which the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Communication and Multimedia, as well as the TECHAGRO PhD. Since 2007, practically uninterruptedly, he has carried out different functions and management tasks. He is currently deputy director of the Master in Multimedia Technology (MTM).
He is an integrated member of CITAB and a collaborator in INESC TEC. He is responsible or participated in preparation of proposals and in the execution of 19 research and technological development (R&D) projects, as well as 9 projects for the provision of specialized services, having assumed the role of researcher in charge (IR) or coordinator at UTAD in 6 of them. He is currently co-IR of a Mobilizing Agenda-Vine & Wine PT-under the DPRR, with a funding amount of 7.8 M € for UTAD. He has also been active in preparing funding proposals for national and European calls.
He has filed several provisional national and international patent applications. However, of these, only two advanced to a definitive patent application. He obtained, both as a competitor and as a supervisor, several prizes in national competitions and in an international one.
Emanuel Peres supervised 5 doctorates, 33 masters and 342 BsC projects, having also participated in several juries of academic tests. He was the author of 96 publications indexed in the Scopus database and 72 publications indexed in the WoS database. Of these, 30 are in the JCR. He has a Scopus h-index of 20 and WoS h-index of 19.
He is a member of the editorial boards of three international JCR journals in the area of remote sensing. He has, on several occasions, played the role of guest editor for special issues in international magazines. He has been a member of the organization and also of the scientific committees of numerous indexed international conferences. He has reviewed over 75 articles for journals listed in the JCR, over 25 for journals indexed in WoS and/or Scopus databases, and over 95 articles for national and international conferences, most of which are indexed.
He is frequently invited to give lectures and workshops in the areas of digital agriculture and cybersecurity.
