Signal Processing for Communications
Biography Robert Akromond, a Ghanaian engineer often called by his native name Kwesi in his early years, is a technologist whose life bridges two worlds: the precision of electronics and the deeply human pursuit of resilience and meaning. His story is not merely one of professional advancement, but of persistence, reinvention, and a relentless search for purpose in adversity. Robert was born to Joseph Ato Kwamena Akromond, an auto mechanic, and Esi Abele Ghunney, a trader. He is one of four children. His father’s mechanical workshop was his first classroom. There, he learned the fundamentals of automotive systems — but more importantly, he developed a curiosity that extended beyond engines. Electronics fascinated him. Circuits, signals, and systems became puzzles he longed to understand. His early childhood was disrupted by the Liberian civil war, forcing displacement and a return to Ghana. That period of instability shaped his resilience. A defining turning point came in Primary Six when he encountered a computer for the first time. Initially struggling with ICT, he committed himself to mastering it. Through discipline and persistence, he rose to become the top ICT student in his district and placed highly in regional competitions. At Winneba Secondary School, Robert’s academic excellence continued. He won awards for historical website design and digital innovation. However, his family faced severe financial hardship during this time. It was in these years that the name “Akrosoft” was first conceived — not as a company, but as a vision: a future group of technology enterprises that would empower talented young people who, like him, lacked opportunity but not ability. In September 2017, Robert enrolled at Ghana Communication Technology University to pursue a Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (City & Guilds, UK). He graduated with Distinctions and proceeded to complete a BSc in Computer Engineering, graduating in October 2021 with Second Class Upper honors (CWA 65/100). During his studies, he immersed himself in engineering research and simulations using tools such as MATLAB, NS-3, and Proteus. He assisted lecturers with academic research and served as a teaching and electronics laboratory assistant. During his studies, he immersed himself in engineering research and simulations using tools such as MATLAB, NS-3, and Proteus. He assisted lecturers with academic research and served as a teaching and electronics laboratory assistant. He later revived the Akrosoft concept, developing POS systems, websites, and management software for small-scale businesses. His philosophy was simple: students should graduate with real-world experience, not just certificates. In 2020, during his third year at university, Robert merged his ventures into Akrosystems Limited, officially registered as a Limited Liability company. With co-founders and early investor support, he positioned Akrosystems as a technology solutions firm focused on engineering innovation and enterprise systems. Simultaneously, he remained deeply committed to academia — assisting with final-year theses for undergraduate and master’s students and continuing research collaborations. Robert served as Organizing Secretary and later President of the Engineering Students Association. Under his leadership, specialized student communities were strengthened in: Programming, Cybersecurity, Networking, Robotics. He organized conferences and industry engagement programs that connected students directly with professionals, helping bridge the gap between academia and industry. During his National Service at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Robert worked within the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) unit. Viewing aviation as a stepping stone toward his long-term ambition of working in advanced aerospace systems, he sought problems to solve. He developed a prototype Digital NOTAM Management System to assist in the transition from AIS to AIM (Aeronautical Information Management). The solution impressed management and led to a contract extension. Following aviation, Robert worked as a Full Stack Developer in fintech and later in enterprise software development. He contributed to an Electronic Records and Document Management System (ERDMS) used by the National Petroleum Authority and its stakeholders across upstream and downstream sectors. Today, Robert serves as Head of Technology and has co-founded multiple startups. He has also co-authored two peer-reviewed research papers in advanced wireless communication systems. His research domain: Communication Networks, Security, AI, IoT, Robotics, Electronics and Software. He remains committed to advancing engineering research and is preparing to pursue an MSc/PhD to further contribute to technology. Robert Akromond’s journey is ultimately one of transformation — turning constraint into capability, disruption into design, and adversity into innovation.
